I need a haircut and I'm getting one in Scotland.
The question is.....am I expected to tip and if so,, how much?

It's your choice. It's not expected but if you want to then go ahead. How much depends on how scintilating the conversation was.
Give him the winner of the 1.30 at Ayr
Personally, I do, especially if I am charged a lower pensioner's rate. Round here, the price in a suburban barbers is usually around £10-£12. I would usually add on £2. Tipping only £1 seems rather mean-spirited, and I would not consider giving more. Good conversation is not required, especially since I take out my hearing aids beforehand.
Thanks......I guess it also depends on how good a haircut I get.
