Theaters and/or music venues in Edinburgh offering classical/folk performances?

Hi! I'm going Edinburgh next May for a few days. What places/music venues offer good "ethnic/Scottish" performances of classical and/or folk music? I'm also wondering if Edinburgh has a good theater that runs performances (classical like shakespeare or otherwise? If someone could direct me to some links it would be useful. I'd really like to check out a show this time around.

Thanks!

You should also check the Gig Guide. You can look in advance, but a lot of gigs don't show up until close to the time. But you could look for venues. If you're traveling at all, Dunkeld has The Taybank which features traditional music and lots of sessions. In Edinburgh Sandy Bells is known for folk music.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra , nominally based in Glasgow , plays in the major cities ( Glasgow , Edinburgh , Aberdeen ,et al ) . Look for details on the internet . I am writing from Munich , and not adept at linking from my tablet . I have often listened to this fine orchestra while at home in New York , they are well worth seeking out .

You could also consider going to the opera. Edinburgh has a great opera house and company. I saw a production of Trovatore there years ago, and enjoyed watching the audience and the crowd in the antique bar at intermission as much as the opera. Scots do not dress up for the opera on principle, they just appreciate good music and story. I enjoyed the evening very much. Do struggle through to the bar and order a good whisky by name if you like it.

Edinburgh has an Opera house?,well that is news to me and the half million people living here.
opera and classical music is preformed at many venues throughout the year and I have been to events in the Festival theatre, the Usher hall, the Lyceum and the Playhouse theatre but there is no specific opera house.
