The Scotland Part of our tour.

We are completing our plans for our Ireland/Scotland trip, concentrating on the Scotland part now. We are a young couple in our early 80's and we do not drive in Europe, especially on the wrong side of the road. We do still walk a lot when we travel but for this trip we decided that we need to take tours to see the most sights. We would like to hear from anyone who has recommendations on tours they have enjoyed. We will be in Glasgow 8 days, Inverness 5 days, and Edinburgh 15 days. We will be in Edinburgh in June and our 16 yr old granddaughter will be with most of the time we are there.

We have looked at local train and bus connections to go to Stirling from Glasgow and St. Andrews and Dundee from Edinburgh. We are also thinking of longer tours like the Isle of Skye out of Inverness and 1 or 2 trips out of Glasgow. Of course tours out of Edinburgh. Has anyone taken the 'Hairy Coo' Tours? The Haggis 'Castle and Broomstick' tour? We will have a Harry Potter fan with us, who also likes to hike. She is the one who convinced us we need to go to Scotland and Ireland because she heard there are great places to hike there.

We would appreciate any suggestions you have on tours and any interesting day trips using local transport.

Thank You
Jerry & Stelly

Hi, Jerry and Stelly,

Take a look at the Haggis Backpackers website. This may be more appropriate for your granddaughter, but it may be a lot of fun to spend a few days touring with young folks like yourselves..

Most of their lodging is in hostel dormitories, but private accommodation is an option, when available.

Have you sorted out your accommodation for Inverness in June? And Skye, if you're planning on going there via public transport?

best wishes for a lovely holiday!
