the quickest way from Portree, Isle of Skye to Oban

Hi All,

need advice on the quickest way getting to Oban from Isle of Skye. We would be driving, should we take the ferry or driving inland? Pricewise?

Cheers

The road from the ferry is a little quicker--but you also need to factor in time getting to, waiting for, and riding on the ferry. If you take the ferry, be sure to book it a few days ahead, as it fills up fast. You can do this at the Tourist Information office in Portree.

Hi cpowilson

if i took the ferry, which route would it be? what i could think of is driving from Portree to Armadale ferry terminal then take the ferry from there to Mallaig, continue driving all the way to Oban which would take approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes non-stop and without traffic. This would be the same more or less if I drive straight from Portree to Oban.

Also would I miss any scenic route by taking the ferry? If I drive, I'd pass A830 which is also known as Road to the Isles which I think would be scenic as it's passing the Highlands inland??
