The isle of Skye. Where to stay?

We plan to day trip to the Isle of Skye for a day of driving, exploring in Late October.

We are my mom 72 and my hubby and I in our 40's . Hubby has mobility issues so we prefer to stay in mordern hotels with accessible rooms so I'm assuming staying on the Isle is not an option. Can you recommend a town that we can base ourselves to day trip to the Isle that would fit our needs? Thank you for any and all suggestions.

The challenge I found in Scotland in general is that lots of hotels and B&Bs do not have any rooms on the ground floor. Some have an elevator ("lift") but many, especially the smaller ones, don't. (As you probably know, the "1st floor" is the floor that's one flight up from the ground floor.)

I wouldn't automatically assume that there aren't any accommodations on the Isle of Skye that meet your needs, but now is the time to book because it's such a popular destination that it fills up far in advance. The Dornie Hotel on the mainland is 10 min by car from the Kyle of Lochalsh bridge and literally walking distance to Eilean Donan Castle, but it doesn't have a lift (AFAIK) and it has no ground-floor rooms.

There is a great link on Visit Scotland for Accessible Scotland. I chose Accommodation and then Isle of Skye. 343 results came up, so I would look closely at the list.

But I think that this would be a good start.

Too bad that hotel near The castle doesn't have a lift cause that is the number one place my hubby wants to see. Sooooo looking forward to it.

Thank you for the link to the Visit Scotland site. Had not even thought of it.
