Hi all,
on my trip planned for June 2019, I have tentatively reserved rooms in the following locations to see the sights. Would love advice to see if these are the best location(or even good ones) to see the recommended sights from RS's book.
3 night in Edinburgh, 2 nights in Stirling, 2 nights in Oban (want to do a Whale watching tour), 2 nights in Inverness and 2 nights at Arith Castle before driving back to Edinburgh, ann dropping off car and flying home. Will this be a doable road trip or will it need "tweeking"? Appreciate any advice. Most places to stay are already getting booked and I want to get our places to stay "all lined up" as they say.
Thanks!!!
This sounds like a reasonable itinerary to me. You will see awe-inspiring scenery and visit lots of the popular points of interest.
I had not heard of Arith (or do you mean Airth?) Castle; I'm assuming it is near Falkirk, is that right?
On your way from Oban to Inverness, or as a day trip out of Inverness, you can stop at Urquhart Castle on the shore of Loch Ness. It's a ruin, so you'll be outdoors, but it has quite a few informative signboards and some costumed interpreters, as well as walking tours a few times a day included in the entry fee. A couple of miles from there is the Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition, a reasonably fact-based (indoor) history of the "Nessie" sightings.
Enjoy!
Yes it is Airth Castle ( Hotel). Spelling was wrong, sorry. It is located close to The Kelpies. We figured we could do additional day trips from there to see what we may have missed or something extra like the R. Barracks.
Yes we want to visit Urquhart Castle also. Would like to see Eilean Donan Castle as well.
We did everything but Arith Castle, but I'll throw Skye in the mix as it was our favorite place on our itinerary, though I think it depends on what your priorities are. If you like scenery, I'd choose Skye over Inverness. We also did Stirling on our drive down from Pitlochry to Edinburgh, rather than spend the night. While you're near Oban (or maybe on the drive to Inverness), make sure you go through the Glencoe Valley -- beautiful scenery!
Thanks Becky! I have read many places that Glencoe is beautiful!! we'll make sure to go through there too.
