Temperature in mid-June?

Hi, I plan to be in Inverness, Perthshire, and Edinburg, June 9-14. Is just a rain jacket good, or a rain jacket with light fleece lining on the body better? Not sure if it will be cold or warm that time of year! I do expect rain. Any advice on outerwear apparel is appreciated….. Thank you. Karen

The coldest winter I ever felt was a summer I had in Scotland!

We took a trip to Scotland in July a while ago and I don't think we ever saw the sun or 65 degrees. But that may be just because we were cursed.

Expect the unexpected and prepare for the worst-- that will guarantee good weather!

I know lots of folks say "layers". I like to augment that with something called "whisky"!

Happy travels!

I spend a lot of time in Scotland and will be back in a couple of weeks.

Scotland weather is fickle. My friends there say if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes. And the weather forecasts are usually the opposite of what occurs.

My suggestion is pack in layers. . A light rain jacket may not be enough. But instead of packing a heavier jacket pack the lighter one and take a sweater along in case it's colder than you hoped.

You could go here for an idea of what the weather may be like.

plug in the location, find the monthly tab, and click on June. It will give you the historical/expected temperatures for each day in the month.

For anywhere in the UK, even in summer, take a rain jacket and a fleece layer, plus the usual t shirts and sweaters. You just never know and you don’t want to be cold.

The average in Edinburgh that time of year is around 20 degrees C. Frequently above, and has hit 30s before.

Be prepared for it to be warm, or cold. Wet or dry. It has been mid twenties this week, and we have not seen rain for weeks.

In addition to the above advice to bring layers for rain and wind, keep in mind that it can be chilly inside old buildings with thick stone walls such as castles and abbeys.

Thanks to all who replied. This helps, I think! Basically, I need to be prepared for anything. But I like the idea of a shot of whiskey if it gets cold....ha!!

I was in Scotland two summers ago which was a very cold summer. You may have better luck. I brought a very waterproof but unlined rain jacket. A puffer to wear underneath or separately and a rain hat. ( This is because I wear glasses ). Also a scarf. I didn't have to wear all these things everyday but it was great to be able to mix and match.
