Hi, I'm all booked for a trip to Shetland in June. I wonder if anyone has used a taxi service to get into Lerwick once there. I'm not renting a car. I'm attending Shetland Noir, a mystery/thriller fest and will do some history research. It's just getting from the airport to my housing once I arrive. Did anyone do that? hire a cab? I plan to book it the next month.
There are always taxis waiting outside the airport for all arrivals. All flights into Shetland are on relatively small aircraft, so you are not dealing with jumbo jets full of people. The drivers will know if a flight is delayed and wait accordingly.
There is also a bus into Lerwick (which I assume is where you are staying). That is scheduled to meet all flights. So you won't have any problems getting into town.
Personally I don't see any need to pre-book a taxi unless that is your preference.
Everywhere in Lerwick is walkable when you are there.
