We are going to be in Scotland for 8 days, starting and ending in Edinburgh. After we spend our first night in the hotel we need to get to Leith to pick up our rental car and when we return it we'll need to get back to the hotel. What is the best way to get a taxi for those trips? Should we just ask the hotel to arrange it for us, or is their an app?
There's a 17min tram every 8 minutes, leaving you with 5 min and 1 min walks at the ends. Unless you have lots of luggage, I'd go that way. There are apps, but when I tried FreeNow, it nagged me to use it, so I removed it. We needed a 4:30am taxi from the Royal Mile to EDI and I used it, but the eventual driver had such a heavy accent (or I just don't have an ear for Arabic) that we had a hard time finding each other. You can do a booking online without an app - just search for taxi. Or use the phone.
Thanks. I had considered the tram, but we have lots of luggage.
I used Gett to get a ride from my Edinburgh hotel to Waverley, as I had some heavier luggage and it worked out well. It's different than Uber in that it's a taxi that you order on the app. It was very easy and you see the price right away. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. Just download the app ahead of time. https://www.gett.com/uk
I was in Edinburgh last week. I used Uber. Never had a problem, I knew the cost before booking, all drivers were friendly, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a car to arrive.
If you load the app, you will know who your driver is, what type of car, license plate number and exactly where you will be picked up. They know exactly where you are going so no need for you to tell him. The driver will confirm your name and possible where you are going.
