Can you buy quality tartans of your clan on the Royal Mile that is authentic and made in Scotland? Not wanting to buy fro a cheesy tourist trap
Yep, a number of registered ?, authorized? wool shops all the mile.
yes there are several very reputable places on the Royal Mile, they are very obvious because they ooze quality as opposed to the tartan Tat shops that ooze anything but quality .Geoffery tailors are one of the best but there are several others in that same stretch of the Royal mile.be prepared to pay for the quality though.

I was going to add this too. I have a picture of an advertising display in Glasgow, saying "get your graduation kilts now - only £850."
About 20 years ago, I bought a kilt in McLeod of Harris tartan in Glasgow for about $400. I applied for the VAT refund and about 3 months later I received a cheque for $3.25. I wore the kilt once (once!) and eventually, because it was moth eaten, I threw it out. Be sure you will love your kilt and be sure you will wear your kilt. But! But, I had fun in the shop as the owner consulted his books to determine which kilt was the correct one for my Scots family name (not McLeod) which apparently was of Isle of Harris origin.
Great story, Emma!
