Stone of Destiny leaving Edinburgh Castle

I just received an email from Historic Scotland telling me that the Stone of Destiny, which is currently on display at Edinburgh Castle, will be leaving there and moving to Perth. The last day to see it at the castle is March 10, 2024.

After that, it will be displayed at the new Perth Museum beginning on March 30, 2024. https://perthmuseum.co.uk/

I also just saw this when looking at Edinburgh Castle site yesterday. This takes some of the sting of not finding accommodation in Edinburgh the weekend of the T Swift concert - instead we're going to visit Perth to check it out there and spend time as well in Stirling.

Sarah, that will be nice! I love Stirling and hope to make it to Perth on my next trip.

Sarah,
If you've not yet found accommodation in Perth, I often stay at the Holiday Inn Express just off the A9, which is great and with lots of free parking. I can't recommend the Mercure in the city centre. Absolutely dreadful beds, tiny bedrooms, dated bathrooms and awful breakfast. Avoid at all costs.

I can also highly recommend a French Bistro in Perth city centre called Breizh. Friends of mine treated me to dinner there and it was excellent. The place was full on a wet, cold February evening and both food and service were great.

Just fyi, your date above is wrong, you have 2020 instead of 2024. Kind of throws you off for a moment.

And entry to the permanent exhibitions at Perth Museum will be free. The Stone of Destiny (only) will be by free timed ticket, but not timed entry to the rest of the museum.

It is mentioned in the linked article, but this is the Stone finally returning home after 700 years.
