Stirling

Will be heading through Stirling on our road trip from Edinburgh en route to Trossachs/ Loch Lomond. Should we spend a night there or just visit ( Stirling castle , Holy Rude) and move on to next destination. We like a slow to moderate pace generally. Thank you for your advice.

That may depend on how much you love castles and where your next destination is. We spent 6 hours at the castle and loved it. Driving can be slow if your heading to the Highlands and may take longer than you think. Stirling is nice place and is worthy of an overnight.

I'm with Allan—I would vote for a stay there. I spent a lot of time at the castle and then also spent a lovely afternoon walking through town and having a nice lunch at one of the cafes. It will be much more relaxing for you, I'm sure. And that way you can enjoy your drive to the Trossachs and not have to worry about rushing.

We spent a couple nights in Stirling. En route from Edinburgh we stopped to see the Kelpies, Falkirk Wheel, and the Forth bridge. After leaving Stirling we visited nearby Doune Castle. Believe we spent 3-3.5 hours at Stirling castle and 1.5-2 at Doune castle.

Stay in Stirling or continue on will probably be dependent on the total number of days you have for your trip.
