I will be visiting my son at St Andrews in May.
We will rent a car to drive to Fort William for the Jacobite train trip, most likely taking the bus from St Andrews to Dundee to rent a car there.
I’m hoping for suggestions for the best driving route as well as ideas of places to stop and lodging ideas on the way there and back. Thank you!

The Snow road through Tomintoul, a place I have a lot of time for.
Cafe in village and there's a marked walk round the village if you want a leg stretch.
Great cafe at Feshie Bridge,take the forest road from Coylumbridge rather than the A9 racetrack.
In.Fort William the Ben Nevis Inn ,I think has a trad music session on either Mondays/ Tuesday..its a lovely building .
