We want to see Hibernian play when we are in Scotland next April. The home game on April 12 fits our schedule best. It is the last scheduled game of the season. The whole ticket process and who has priority to buy tickets is a little confusing. The tickets also don’t go on sale until closer to the game, long after we will have to finalize travel plans.
Will getting tickets be as difficult as it seems? Are there any tips on getting tickets?
Hi! Okay, what a FUN thing to do on a trip to Scotland! :-)
I do not know the rules for Hibs, being a Chelsea FC supporter myself, but I do know (from my tourist years before moving here) that yes, getting tickets can be confusing.
Sometime people recommend buying a membership to the club (this is usually pretty inexpensive) which allows you to buy tickets on a website, sometimes called an exchange, that have been put up for sale by current season ticket holders. Those season ticket holders can place tickets they can’t use for sale on the website, and they’re available to anyone with a membership, generally at a minimal markup.
That said, those exchange websites normally don’t release tickets until about a month before each match, and you have to haunt the site and proactively search for available tickets. It is a pain! It’s what we did in the Before Times, before we moved within walking distance of Stamford Bridge.
So, that very long thing having been said, what do I recommend? Hospitality!
These tickets are available to anyone - no membership required - and while they are more expensive, they come with food and drink, and often with excellent/swank seats.
You will need to book in advance but the process will be less crazy-making and stressful.

being a Chelsea FC supporter myself,
are there actually any Chelsea supporters?

The game on 12th April is not the last game of the season. It’s the last of the first phase, after which there are a further 5 games as the division splits in half. That’s good as sometimes last games of the season can be harder to get into.
This situation is not the same as for many teams in the English Premier League, like at Chelsea, where getting regular tickets for games can be difficult to almost impossible. It should be considerably easier for this game, especially as Hibs are playing Dundee and not Celtic or Rangers.
Easter Road has a capacity of just over 20,000 but their average gate so far this season is around 15.000. Today’s gate was indeed just under 15.000.
Unless you particularly want to take hospitality I would expect regular tickets to be straightforward to buy nearer the date. I would recommend contacting the club for advice, either by calling or email. The only possible hiccup could be if Hibs are reluctant to sell tickets to anyone not already on their database but contacting them and explaining your situation should get round anything like that.
Oh, and here it’s football and not soccer.
You should be able to just turn up on the day and buy a ticket on the gate. That is standard procedure at football grounds that don’t routinely sell out.
Helen - that’s probably correct for lower league games but for many a bit higher up tickets are often not available on the day. I support a Championship team and at many of our games, both home and away, you cannot buy a ticket on match day let alone on arrival at the ground. You certainly cannot rely on being able to do it.
Thank you everyone for the responses. I had not thought about just looking to see how sold out games can be. Hospitality is an option but not something we care about unless it is the only way.
I will try contacting the club first.
Yes I know it is football. I am so used to saying soccer to avoid any confusion as we attend a lot of both types of games here.
