Sleep in Pitlochry or Stirling?

We will be traveling from Inverness to the Lake District at the end of June and would like to see the sights and spend one night along the way. We're hoping to see the sheep dog demonstration as one of the stops, which I believe is at 4:00 in the afternoon. Would you recommend we spend the night in Pitlochry or travel another hour (arriving rather late) and spend the night in Stirling? Thank you!

Hi, Belinda,

Much as I love Stirling, you may be better off in Pitlochry. Unless you can find lodging on the periphery of Stirling, it's very easy to get lost trying to find your way in from the various motorways. Unless, of course, you have a sat-nav. As you'll be there at the end of June, there will be daylight until about 10 p.m. So you won't be arriving "late."

Pitlochry is basically just one long main street, with a few side roads, so you shouldn't have any problem finding your way about.

If you decide to stay in Stirling, I can highly recommend the Premier Inn Stirling South. It's on the A872, just off the big roundabout. There's a restaurant attached, if you get in late.

Wherever you end up staying, once you leave the next morning, it's motorway almost all the way from Stirling to the Lake District.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Another vote for Pitlochry. Both places are great, but Pitlochry is more compact. I'd probably be looking to secure accommodation now as it's a popular spot.
