Hello,
We will be travelling from Skye (Portree) to Falkrik with a car in May. I am wondering if/where we should stop to stay for a night so we are not rushing through the beautiful scenery? I was thinking of Oban, but saw that they are having a festival.... maybe somewhere between Glencoe and Falkirk? I am at a loss... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Amanda
You could find somewhere in theGlencoe/ Ballachullish area. The other alternative (which may be quieter) is Killin or Lochearnhead. Both are attractive small settlements. See pictures and some information about them here.

If you wanted somewhere a bit bigger, then there is Callander.

Hello moonbem25
Oban is absolutely not on the route to Falkirk from Skye! You basically have two routes, one which heads south from Kyle of Lochalsh having left Skye via the bridge. You head south until Spean Bridge, then head east, eventually picking up the A9 at Dalwhinnie. From the bridge to Falkirk would take about 5 hours with no stops. However, Pitlochry would make for a good overnight stop and is much nicer than Falkirk.
The other route, leaving Skye via the ferry Armadale to Mallaig, or via the bridge and then heading south (keeping on the main road south at Spean Bridge and not turning off) would bring you to Fort William and then to Glencoe and south to Crianlarich where you would head east towards Callander and Doune. You would then emerge onto the M9 motorway which takes you near Stirling and on to Falkirk. Callander might make for a good overnight stop.
Hope this helps
