Hi everyone!
We will be in Skye from June 20-24 and then we are on our way to Carrbridge but would like to have a two day stop over on the way. I was suggested to go to the Black isle area and I was wondering if anybody had been there. . We will then go to Edinburgh and then take the train to London. We will have done other areas of the highlands, so this is on her way home.
Any suggestions would be great
I think the Black Isle is wonderful- only two main towns-Cromarty and Fortrose.
I would stay in the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer, and then drive over to the Isle, it's about an hour.
One of the fun things to do from Cromarty is to take the tiny car ferry across the bay to Nigg (this is a 2 car ferry, and used to be a turntable ferry like the one to Glenelg on Skye.
Then drive back round through Invergordon, possibly with a short diversion to Glenmorangie Distillery at nearby Tain
While at Strathpeffer don't miss the restored Station and Cafe
