Hi. I’m going to be in Portree for 4 nights starting on October 12. I’ve read some posts from the archives about how to prepare for the October weather. I’m curious about how proactive I should be about making reservations for restaurants and site seeing activities. I have my accommodation booked. In your experience, how busy (from a tourism point of view) is mid October?

Scottish schools have autumn break from 13th October for two weeks, so you can expect things to be busy. In fact Skye tends to remain pretty busy all year round these days. But yes your 4 nights fall in the school holidays, so I'd be booking restaurants especially if there are particular ones you want to eat at. You should be fine for sight seeing activities. Boat trips may have started to wind down and weather will be an issue for boat trips too - so they are unlikely to take reservations without the caveat that things might be cancelled due to weather.
