Skye, Harris, Lewis in September

We are planning a trip to Scotland for our 30th wedding anniversary. Our focus will be on the Hebrides islands. I was thinking of flying into Glasgow, driving to Fort William, then catching the ferry to Skye the next day. Or would it be better to fly into Inverness and drive to Skye? That would give us an additional day on the Islands.

Or even better look at flying to Stornoway from Inverness, Glasgow or Edinburgh with Loganair if the focus is on the Outer Hebrides. Skye is one of the Inner Hebrides.

Then renting a car at Stornoway Airport from Car Hire Hebrides or Stornoway Car Hire.

If flying into Glasgow especially there should be an afternoon flight to 'connect' with the International one. In quotes as the connection would be a separate ticket.

If you flew into Inverness and going straight to Lewis there is also the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry.

A little spendier than the ferry, but LoganAir is less weather dependent, and much faster. And you don't need to arrange transportation from an airport to the ferry terminal. We've done the connection to Stornoway on the day of the long-haul from Seattle with just a few hours of layover. We've also done the same thing to Orkney and Shetland. I like to squeeze all the travel agony into one long day.

You can also connect to Benbecula or Barra from Glasgow if those are part of you target. You could fly into Stornoway, rent a car, and pay the one-way fee to drop it off at Benbecula or Barra.
