We (4 adults) plan on visiting Skye in late May-early June and am having some trouble searching for car rentals on the island. I see two sites, both seem to have no web form to check price or available vehicles. I submitted an email request form to one but am wondering if this is the only/best way to do this. We do not want to have a car other than while on Skye, so renting one on the mainland is out. Anyone have any input about it? I can't decide if I'm overlooking something obvious or if the sites are just unusual.
I rented from Morrison’s and I think I emailed. [email protected] They delivered to Armadale and I dropped off in Uig.
There were a couple of companies delivering to the ferry in Armadale but I don’t remember who. I see Drive Skye on a google search.
Edit: July, 2022.
Hi, Chuck,
You didn't say how you are arriving on Skye. If you are arriving through Kyle of Lochalsh by train or bus, Skye Car Hire has an office in Kyle. If you check their website, there is a telephone number listed. There may not be anyone about right now to respond, as it's currently way out of tourist season. However, their website does say that they are open tomorrow (Thursday).
Their website states that they can meet you in Armadale, if you are arriving by ferry from Mallaig.
One of our regular posters, Skyegirl, lives on the island, so she may be able to provide you with more information.
Good luck!

Hi,
Don't be surprised at the somewhat small scale nature of the car hire business on Skye. Most people rent a car before coming here on holiday, so there is actually little demand for rentals on the island. When my own car has been off the road I have rented one from Morrisons, and their customer service is excellent. You'd probably be best giving them a call as it's not their main line of business (they are a garage who service cars) and they are not really set up for lots of rentals. You won't have a lot of choice with any of the small garages who rent cars here. It will be a case of you get what they have available. Personally for holiday rentals I would rent on the mainland in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness - although I appreciate that is not your preference.
Best wishes
Jacqui (Skyegirl)
Ah, thanks to you folks for the advice. I will call Morrison's tomorrow and see what's what.
