Shore excursion tour

For a cruise port stop for Edinburgh is there a tour offered that one can visit the city and also see St. Andrews? I am thinking they are not close…but do hate to chose one and miss the other.

I think it would depend on how long you are in port that day. I love St.Andrews but I think you would be better served focusing on Edinburgh. It’s close, you could do it independently, and there is more than enough to fill the day.

I'd be surprised if one tour could include both, but I suggest you check with the cruise line, or ask your question on [Cruise Critic][1], where you'll find a lot more people focused on cruising.

It kind of depends on where the call is, as there are four possible places the ship could be calling at, for Edinburgh. Two are alongside, and two are anchorages with tenders ashore.
But I don't think you'll find such a local tour, maybe the ship has an excursion to St Andrews.
Trying to do it independently it takes about 2 hours each way by transit. If you are tendering into South Queensferry allow another hour to get to Edinburgh city centre on the cruise shuttle bus. And you can't predict what time you will be ashore, when tendering. South Queensfery is the usual tender port for the American lines, but sometimes they use Newhaven (trams into the city) and occasionally Rosyth on the Fife side of the Forth. You can't walk out of Rosyth.
Boutique lines go alongside at Leith (trams outside, and next to the Royal Yacht, Britannia)
Also be aware that the weather often blows up in the Forth making tendering impossible, thus cancelling the call.
If it was a SQ tender call, I would go up the steps from the tender slipway and use Dalmeny railway station.

Google will find some private tours. How much are you willing to pay. Looks like at least $400

Just use caution when booking independent shore excursions because if they are late you will.miss the ship that has no responsibility to wait for you. If you book.with cruise line then you are covered.

Thank you! Our cruise excursions offered are only one or the other. I know we do need to visit Edinburgh as we never have been to Scotland. I also agree it’s safer to do shore ex through the cruise line and most of the time we do. My husband as avid golfer would enjoy just seeing St. Andrews.

But it is fairly unlikely that St Andrews will be an all day tour. Depending on how long you are in port and whether alongside or tendered you may have time to go into Edinburgh independently on the tram/cruise link bus before or after the St Andrew's Excursion.

If you are at South Queensferry the ship will wait for the last cruise link bus if it gets caught in traffic, but be sure you know what time the last bus leaves the City Centre.

If there isn't time then your husband could do St Andrew's and you, Edinburgh. Maybe not ideal, but could be the best available option.
