Has anyone had any luck finding a self-serve laundry in Oban? I’ll be staying there on a Saturday afternoon/night after five days on a remote part of Mull where I know I won’t have access to laundry. The only mentions of laundry I can find are for a place that probably won’t be open on Saturday (and which has no self-serve option).
Two ideas. (1) Have you asked your Oban lodging host for advice? They may have a washing machine of their own and be willing to do a load for you at a reasonable price, or they may know of a laundry facility that's not advertised. It would behoove them to help you out rather than have you wash your clothes in the sink and drip all over the furniture. (2) Where's your next stop after Oban? More options might exist wherever that is.
As a last resort, SYHA hostel ( and probably the independent hostels ) have laundry machines. I would email to confirm that machines are open to non-hostelers.
Hi, Julie,
There's a laundrette in Salen. I don't know if it's coin-op, but I think that it is. If you're passing through Salen, you could check it out on the way. There's a laundry in Tobermory, but it's not self service. We've had pretty good luck with non self-service laundries in Scotland. They haven't lost anything yet! However, they always put the dryers on high heat, to save drying time, so if you're concerned about your clothes shrinking, make other arrangements.
We've used the laundry in Oban. Unfortunately, it's the only one, and it's not self service. Most of the large campgrounds have their own self-service laundry. We've done that in the past. Just be sure to bring a lot of coins, especially 50p pieces.
Enjoy your time on Mull!
