We are doing a tour with RS in September and have about 1/2 day “free time” on Isle of Iona. Would we have time to see the cave? And can you recommend a local operator to take us there?

I think there are some three hour trips - but that's only going to work if the timings are very kind to you

Keep in mind the weather has to cooperate as well, so you might want to have a backup plan just in case it doesn't.

I will also be on RS tour this September. Was looking at a day trip from Oban to Staffa, mainly wanted to see Puffins and to visit the cave. However, someone pointed out to this announcement. Not certain if the cave will be open to the public during the month of September or October.

The Puffins are very unlikely to still be on Staffa in September, irrespective of the construction work.. Their season is late April to early August.
