We are planning a trip to Scotland next year and would love a wonderful, working farm conducive to a young family. Thanks!
Hi, cawlee313,
How old is the child?
Mike (Auchterless)
Our son will be 5.5, he loves farms, gardening, animals...
The Visit Scotland website has suggestions (scroll down on the right side)

Hi again, cawlee313,
There are several websites which list working farm accommodation in Scotland. This is one of them:
www.visitscotland.com/holidays-breaks/farm-stays
Best thing to do is check a few out, then go to Tripadvisor to find their reviews.
Hope that helps.

p.s.: Your son may enjoy Craig Highland Farm, near Plockton. They do have a website. I don't know whether or not it's a working farm, but it has all kind of farm and other animals, including goats, llamas, and even a pair of pet raccoons! They also have accommodation, but from what I've seen, it's a bit iffy. If you wander down to shore of Loch Carron, and time it right, you can see the train go right by on its way to and from Kyle.
Someone recommended a cottage near Abelour that looked appealing. I think they had sheep, chickens, etc.
Hi again, cawlee313,
Just another thought - your son (and his parents!) would probably enjoy Deep Sea World in North Queensferry. It's Scotland's National Aquarium, and has one of the longest underwater tunnels in the world. It's a bit expensive (15 pounds for adults; 11 pounds for your son), but you can save 20% by booking ahead.
Best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
p.s.: That Craig Highland Farm I mentioned in a previous post is on a donation basis. They have a money can outside the office, or you can give some money to one of the employees.
I don't have any specific recommendations, but I think it is a great idea!
When we went to Scotland in 2002, we stayed in small B&Bs. Two were working farms. One was a dairy farm just outside Glasgow. We got to meet their 17 new calves only a few weeks old! They other was just outside Linlithgow. They raised Clydesdales and there as a mare who was due any day. She was the biggest horse I've ever seen. We thought we'd get to see her newborn, but we left before she went into labor.
I hope you have a great trip!
