Scotland trip insight

We travel from London via train on August 12 and have two nights in Edinburgh then we are scheduled to travel by car to Inverness on 12/14, Isle of Skye 8/15-8/17, Pilochry 8/17 and back to Edinburgh 8/18, fly home to NY from Edinburgh 8/19.

My question- would he be better served skipping Inverness and visiting Glencoe/Fort William area instead AND would it be better to stay two nights in Pitlochry and drive to the airport on the 8/19 and skip the last night in Edinburgh ?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions !

Useful advice needs more info about your likes and interests. Inverness (Culloden, Clava, Urquhart) is about history while Glencoe is more about natural beauty and hiking. If you haven't booked Skye yet, it may be too late to find lodging.

Unless your flight is late in the day, I'd be uncomfortable coming from Pitlochry, given summer traffic, road construction, etc. I might suggest moving to Stirling or Culross for the last night? Spending the last night in Edinburgh means turning in the car, getting to your lodging, getting to EDI - I wouldn't keep the car for the last night in Edinburgh unless you stay on the outskirts.

You might want to consider spending your last night in Dunfermline, which is a charming town about 15 miles north of Edinburgh Airport. You could visit Dunfermline Abbey, which dates back to the 11th century and also visit the church next door, which houses the remains of Robert the Bruce. His remains were rediscovered during foundation work for the new parish church in 1818 and reburied beneath the pulpit. The palace is closed for extensive work, but you can see the outside of the ruins, and everything else is easily seen inside.

Pittencrieff Park is also worth a visit. This is a lovely park that was donated by Andrew Carnegie to the town and is absolutely huge but really beautiful. It has a lot of historic sites there and some lovely greenery and flowers. It would make a nice stop before you leave Scotland.
