Scotland packing list

Hello:
We are leaving for Scotland in a few days and stay in Inverness area for 4 weeks. Our rental does have a washing machine, I am trying to compile a packing list so that we don't over pack.
Do we need hiking poles since we are planning to go to Glencoe area and Isle of Skye?
Do we need soft shell jackets? I do plan to bring rain jackets and rain pants.

Thank you :)

If you use them and you are going hiking then, yes.

Have you got your ETAs?

I took a gortex jacket with a removable fleece liner. It was a great choice because the weather varied a lot, and it was an all-in-one solution.

I’d bring a hat and gloves. I needed them for a trip to the Highlands in September

If you don't want to pack walking poles then you can find them once you get to Scotland. There are plenty of outdoor shops in Inverness, e.g. Tiso (fairly upmarket) is a bit like REI, or there's Go Outdoors (budget), Mountain Warehouse (budget), Cotswold Outdoor or Trespass.

You will need to take account of the wind and rain, which can occur year round! Layers and a windproof, waterproof outer layer are key. You will need hiking boots too. I wear either a wind and waterproof jacket or a down jacket year round depending on whether it looks like rain when I head out. Whichever jacket I'm not wearing will be in the car as the weather changes fast.

How close to Inverness are you staying? It's a good 3 hours from Inverness to where I live in North West Skye. Plenty of decent hiking closer to Inverness. Have you checked out Walk Highlands for options?

If you have a lightweight set of long underwear, bring it.
Good for layering under to block the wind, and use as pj’s if your accommodation is chilly.
I would never travel without a set now.
They weigh nothing.
