I am traveling with 3 other males intent on a scotch tasting tour. Our plan is to visit Speyside distilleries primarily. Does anyone have suggestions as to what town to call home base and any tours/ car services to hire? We will be in the area for 3 days. Thank you in advance!
Can’t help with a driver, but Granton-on-Spey was right in the middle of a lot of distilleries so very convenient. Good restaurants, too. Maybe a B&B there could help you set up a driver. We stayed at the Rossmor Guesthouse and found them very helpful.
I would suggest staying in Cragellachie, the Highlander Inn has rooms and is pretty good there are also several small B&Bs,if money is no problem then the Craigellachie Hotel, but anyway visit the Quaich bar there for a true whisky experience.. Macallan distillery is an easy walk away, Glenfiddich and Balvenie easily reached by local bus or a short cab ride (I actually walked the few miles to them), Aberlour (also worth considering to stay in)easily reached by local bus or taxi as are several other places close by, just look on the map all are based on the Speyside way
and please call it whisky and not scotch when in Scotland.
