SSEN Transmission are bringing an undersea energy cable ashore at Dundonnell on the shores of Little Loch Broom, to bring renewable energy from the Outer Hebrides to Beauly (near Inverness).
The overland route will require engineers to replace or upgrade nearly 40 culverts along the A832 between Dundonnell and Fain Bridge (on the way to Braemore Junction on the Garve to Ullapool Road.
The road was due to be closed from October 27 to December 19, and then again from January 5 to “Spring 2026”. The closure to be from 7 am to 9pm daily with amnesty/access windows to let traffic through between 8am and 8.45am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm and 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
Very long diversions will be in place via Gairloch, Loch Maree, Achnasheen and Garve.
The start has now been delayed to at least January 2026 which may now impact well into the summer- this is to allow for public consultation and possible modification of the plans.
