Hello. So, back in 2013 as we were leaving Edinburgh I was sitting on the left side of the train as we headed south. I didn't have my video camera going but I know I saw some kind of a old ruins right beside the track. It didn't seem too far out. I thought we were barely headed out, so I'm not sure of the exact location. But I've been trying to find out what it's called. Was it an old castle, or a grand home. I'm hoping someone else has seen this and knows what it's called. It's one of those things that you think of later and Wonder... Hope someone know. :) Thank you
Not exactly a ruin, but just outside of Edinburgh. It was on an episode of The Amazing Race, and I made a point of going there a number of years ago while in Edinburgh.

Although I have taken the train To Edinburgh, I have no idea if it's visible from the train, or the one you saw.
Was it up high on your left going South, just after the train leaves the station?
If so, it’s the old Royal High School.

Is this it?
It didn't seem to be up high, if I can recall just close to the train tracks that we could definitely see it. I don't think it's the Castle. It wasn't that big...or for what I remember. It just seemed it could be a grand home. Sorry. Like I said. Over 10 years ago.
I appreciate your replies and I'm taking a look at each link. Thank you.
Here is the view from the train between London and Edinburgh, unfortunately in rainy weather. But see if you can spot the ruins and it might be easier to identify them. https://youtu.be/3orMJyeGoKg?t=13066
There is a monument on Calton Hill that can look like ruins.
Likewise you may have seen the back of St Andrew's House, which is the seat of the Scottish Government. This is the front.
Sam!! You solved my Mystery. This looks like I remember. I’m so glad to have it finally figured out! That was something I couldn’t figure out. Appreciate everyone that commented. The YouTube was a great idea too. But looking at Newhailes House. Proximity to the train tracks. I think that’s it!! Thank you so much!!! :)
For anyone thinking about visiting Newhailes the public transit directions on the National Trust for Scotland are out of date, and by several years.
The First Bus services 140 and 141 have been run by Lothian Buses East Coast for several years now, since First pulled out of East Lothian. They run from Musselburgh to Penicuik via Rosslyn Chapel, making it easy to combine those two locations.
I've not checked whether the Lothian routes are still correct, as they have just (on 28 May) had various network revisions.
