We are close to beginning our RS Scotland tour. We are flying in to Glasgow...do the cabs in Glasgow take credit cards? I had 2 cabs in England last year - Bath and London - that did not take credit cards.
Was the cab you took in London an actual cab you hailed or a mini-cab that someone called for you.
True London cabbies are supposed to take credit cards.
In Glasgow, cabbies are supposed to take credit cards. Whether or not you find one that wants to follow the rules is a different story.
It’s quite interesting that the hotel we were staying at ordered the cab for us. We were at a radisson hotel in the Kensington area of London as part of the RS tour.
I just got back from my vacation in Glasgow and Edinburgh. I did see some cabs in Glasgow that didn’t take credit cards—it clearly said “Cash only” on the outside of the car.
We used Uber there a number of times and found that it worked as smoothly as it does at home.
And we used Citylink buses to travel from the airport (in our case, EDI) to Glasgow and then, a few days later, from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
For our return trip from our Edinburgh hotel to the airport, we took a taxi that the front desk called for us. That cab took payment by credit card.
It appears taxi drivers greatly prefer cash. We had one tell me he couldn't take a credit card, and then I held my ground. He relented and brought out the credit card device. Make sure you settle that issue before you get in the taxi.
As they say “there’s no tax in taxi” when the card machine is “broken”.
I returned from Scotland last week. The taxi at the airport in Glasgow took credit cards, as did the cab that took me to the Edinburgh airport for the return. Almost everything in Scotland was tap to pay.
