Route Oban to Glasgow area - West or East side of Trossachs?

Are there sights worth seeing on the East side of Trossachs? Or should we take A85 to A82 towards Glasgow? We are actually staying the night in Balloch before dropping some friends off at Glasgow airport the next day.
We do want to stop and search out the Devil's Pulpit. But, that looks not too bar from Balloch.
Note: Inveraray is not a factor this time as we will be stopping here during a loop during our second week in Scotland.
Thank you.

I've only driven the A82 (west side), but can say it's plenty scenic. If you have time you can take a boat cruise on Loch Lomond out of Tarbet, or Luss, or Balloch. The boat operators that I know of are Cruise Loch Lomond and Sweeney's Cruises.

Also, on your way down from Oban you'll pass the Ben Cruachan "hollow mountain" hydropower station visitor centre, which is fascinating if you have any interest in science. If time permits, you can take the tour under the mountain. In any case the visitor centre has a nice little cafe overlooking Loch Awe, and restrooms. (Some of the other places along the way do not have public restrooms -- customers only.)

From Balloch to Glasgow airport the navigating is easy as the airport is well signposted. If you need to fill up with petrol, Dumbarton is the last place (that I know of) where it's easy to stop before the road becomes a limited access highway and you go over the Erskine Bridge.
