Riding Jacobite train

We want to ride the Jacobite train and will be staying in Glasgow and Inverness. It looks like it is a shorter drive from Inverness to get to Fort William?? What is the best way to do this trip? We are renting a car in Inverness for 3 days. Thanks!

Well the train line from Glasgow to Mallaig, via Fort William is considered one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world, so you could take the regular train from Glasgow to Fort William and change to the Jacobite there. Rail guru the man in seat 61 has an article about it. https://www.seat61.com/WestHighlandLine.htm

Whether you start at Glasgow or Mallaig, you have to get back some how. If you have parked your hire car somewhere you need to get back there.
One option is to start in Glasgow, and then only pick up your car in Mallaig (same day or after an overnight stop), then drive to Inverness.
