Hi, I read in his book that it can provide us opportunities for discounted prices. Would there be any discount codes for booking train tickets?
I don't think there are any Rick Steves discounts for train tickets. Note: when booking train tickets, links may take you to an agency called Rail Europe. Best not to use them, as they are a third party that doesn't show all trains and discount fares, and also adds fees. Best to use the train sites for each country's train system. Enjoy your trip!
Mentioning the Appropriate RS book or showing it will get you discounts at some hotels and restaurants—these locations are generally noted in the book(s).
There are no such discounts for train tickets.

The best place to buy train tickets is via the main national rail website National Rail You can use the site to plan your journey and see prices for specific trains and then click through to the train operator websites to purchase the tickets. There is no commission charge doing it this way. Whereas agent sites may well charge commission.
Thank you for your response. There are so many options my head is spinning.
I have three travel days which require rail and bus. We can travel after 9:15 am on those days. I'm thinking the Spirit of Scotland will work for that.
And then, we have a day that we'll have to leave before 9:15 am and take the bus/rail back to the airport. I'm thinking the two travel together option but this option doesn't appear to include bus. For this trip we'll be in Peebles then travel to the airport. I am grateful for any additional help.
I think you'd need to provide a few more details such as start and finish locations, dates and times of travel for anyone to be able to properly help, and even then it's going to be tricky. The best thing to do is to play with the national rail journey planner. Not all locations have a 'plus bus' option. In those cases you'd have to research local bus routes and timetables and then pay for your fare on the bus.
