Renting a car with pickup in Fort William, drop off in Inverness

Hello there,

I am traveling to Scotland in March and I am taking the train up to Fort William, and then would like to rent a car for my trip out to the Outer Hebrides. I have a flight out of Inverness a week later. So I would like to return the car at Inverness airport.

I have tried all my usual websites, but I keep coming up empty, except for a company called EasyDrive Scotland. They seem okay, but expensive.

Can anyone recommend a company that might do this type of One-way rental? I had expected all the big companies to do so, but I am not having much luck. I am not sure if picking up in Fort William is the problem...

Thanks!

Brenda

As you are aware , not all rental providers have offices where you want to go , the locations dictate where you can pick up or drop off . Fort William is actually a relatively small place and my best guess is that the closest pick up location for you will be Glasgow Airport . The drive up toward the Western Isles from there is pleasant . You will have to check which agencies allow drop off in Inverness .

I don't think you'll find this. Maybe take the train to Inverness and do a round trip to the west. The drive is not as long as you think. The train trip is beautiful to Inverness. There are two routes to Skye and back to Inverness.

Your plan was to take the train up to Fort William from where? From Edinburgh, or Glasgow, or?

I can vouch for the drive from Glasgow airport to Fort William via Inveraray. It's lovely. Inveraray is about 2 hours from Glasgow and Fort William another 2 hours, either via Cruachan & Connel bridge or via Glencoe.
