In late July, my husband and I would like to rent a car in Edinburgh near Waverley station to tour the highlands, then turn in the following day late in Glasgow, in order to catch the night train Glasgow to London. Can't find a company that would allow me to do both. Is this impossible? Alternate would be to rent in Edinburgh, turn in at Fort William and catch the train there, but Fort William is a much more expensive overnight train trip to London.
Hi Kathy-just this weekend, we reserved a car from Arnold Clark car rentals for this August. We're picking up in Inverness and returning it at the Edinburgh airport, for what that's worth.
Is the problem that the companies you'e looking at don't have a Glasgow return office, or is it the late-hour return that they're not allowing? Have you checked with Arnold Clark? Hopefully you can find a company that will work with you.
In addition to the issues mentioned, advance booking for a two-day rental often costs as much as three days. Auto Europe is another place to compare rates and availability.
How late are you trying to return it? The downtown locations will not be open as late. You might look into dropping it off at the airport and catching the bus into the city. It's an easy bus.
Thanks. I am searching Kayak and I had not thought of the airport locations staying open later. I'll try that.
