Recommendations for hiring a driver?

Hello! We are planning a trip to Scotland next year - probably in May. This will be our second trip. We loved the first one, but we rented a car and drove most of the time. Though I hate to admit it, the driving was a little more stressful for us than we anticipated, so we are going to try to use trains, buses, and maybe even taxis this time. However, I have seen a number of comments on this forum suggesting hiring a driver, so I am thinking about doing that for part of the time. What thoughts/recommendations do you have for hiring a driver?

We plan to start in Edinburgh for a few days (where I assume we won't really need a driver or even a car), and then go on up the east coast, perhaps to Aberdeen with stops along the way. However, we are pretty flexible and it may depend on what transportation modes are available to us.

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Check out the cost of hiring a driver - that could put you off. Also if you are planning to stop in different places during this time, remember the cost will include the driver's accommodation too.

I was recently in Ireland without a car. I hired a taxi for two outings that were not accessible any other way. I found the closest town large enough to have taxi service, then sent inquiries (via email or Facebook messenger). Quotes were all over the place. I simply picked the lowest cost. Still expensive but less than car rental and no stress. Also, we got around a lot faster.
