My husband and I are traveling on RS' tour at the end of June into July. I recently bought Sketcher's waterproof sneakers, which are very comfortable. I'm now wondering about raincoats. I have a thigh length light weight raincoat, but question whether I need a almost knee length waterproof with lining raincoat. Any suggestions??? I recently bought Eddie Bauer's Girl on the Go Raincoat and am trying to decided whether to keep it and take it or return it. Besides a raincoat, would you take a regular jacket as well? thanks in advance for your recommendations
This thread is worth reading, several recommendations for good coats that would be very useful for Scotland…

thanks so much!!!
During my RS Scotland trip during the August 2019 timeframe I found both my rain jacket and rain pants useful on three days. But I did a lot of personal walking. A good umbrella with your current raincoat may be all that you will need. Waterproof is key. A lined raincoat could be too warm at times. I recommend a jacket for the cooler day parts. Whenever I’ve gone without one it was necessary to purchase.
Projected highs and lows for Scotland in June and July range from the 50’s to the 80’s with July being a very wet month. Naturally everything is subject to change.
During my first trip to Scotland back in August 2014 it never rained.
May be June but there's been precious few warm days last few weeks.
A number of reporting stations have barely made 52 f the last few days and ,ground frost has been common.
Indeed Altnahara had an air frost lost night
We're headed to western Scotland in July! We're quite loyal to Oros and depend on their jackets, base layers, and pants for our winter travel. For this trip, we've purchased the Gemini jackets: https://www.orosapparel.com/products/womens-gemini-jacket
I recently ordered the EB Girl on the Go Trench Coat, too. I had a trench similar to it on a 6-week trip (all of May to mid-June) to England and Scotland in 2016. It was absolutely the best for the rain and cold I experienced, especially in Scotland and York.
I will be using that new trench for my 20 July to 24 August trip to Ireland and Wales this year. I already had an EB Rainfoil Packable Jacket, but decided that I wanted something that would cover my rear. And I like the trench because of its simple lines.
I will not take an extra jacket. Instead I'll decide on my major layering pieces as it gets closer to the time to go. I hope the forecasts are such that l'll only need to take one light sweater and one zip-up fleece like this Amazon Essentials one.
Of course I'll take a beanie, long underwear, pants, both long and short sleeved tees and 1 or maybe 2 long-sleeved shirts. On that trip in 2016 I took layers, but not the right kind and was very cold like the woman's story linked above.
I was in the Seattle area the month of May, will be back the 3 weeks before I leave and will fly from and back to there. It's not the reason for being in the cold, wet, dark PNW, but I'll be using the weather to train for my trip. One thing for sure, being in Tucson as I am for most of this month is not the best location for that purpose. 🌞
I bought this jacket for our current trip to the Outer Hebrides. https://www.regatta.com/mens-pack-it-iii-waterproof-jacket-oxford-blue/
I was so pleased that when we saw a regatta shop in Fort William, my wife bought one for herself.
Until now we have been well pleased with them.
