Rail Pass

Good day everyone,

I will be traveling to Scotland in a week and had a question about a rail pass. I will be traveling with my 2 teenage daughters who will be 17 and 16 at the time of our trip. We will be staying in Glasgow, and also staying a few days down in Nottingham, England.

The question is what kind of train pass we should get. We will be doing day trips, possibly more than once, to Loch Lomond, Edinburgh, Heanor from Nottingham, and also thinking of doing a day trip from Nottingham to London. These trips will be to visit family and friends. We don't mind rail travel and distances are not a problem for us, we are on trains a lot.

So to recap, we will have at least one return trip to:
Loch Lomond,
Trip to stay in Nottingham,
Heanor to/from Nottingham,
Possible trip London from Nottingham
Return to Glasgow,
Edinburgh day trips,

It looks like the Britpass is the way to go. Our trip is for 2 weeks. If there are any questions to fill in any holes I may have left I will answer them as soon as I can, and thank you for any help or suggestions you may have.

It depends if you want flexibility or are happy to book specific timed trains.

If the former then Britrail is your best bet. The domestic equivalent is a lot more expensive (All Line Rail Rover 7 or 14 days).

For Heanor I would use the local bus at £3 per journey, but you could use Langley Mill station- use point to point tickets for that, please don't waste a pass day.

Likewise Balloch or Arrochar & Tarbet (for Loch Lomond) would be a waste of a pass day.
Even just a week out, Advance, timed tickets would be the way to go if happy with that.
To Glasgow I would take different routes out and back-up
1- via Manchester, book as Nottingham to Manchester and Manchester to Glasgow - both hourly trains
2- via the Settle and Carlisle line- book as Nottingham to Leeds, Leeds to Carlisle and Carlisle to Glasgow to get the best fares.
You are all adults so for you and one daughter get a Two Together Railcard to save 1/3 off all off peak (after 9.30 weekday , all day weekends)
