Quirky question: cheap camping chair in Inverness

We get off the Caledonian Sleeper in Inverness then hike over to the Airport for our car rental. As we expect to spend a fair bit of time outdoors enjoying nature we wanted to buy a couple of cheap camping/travel folding chairs to throw in the boot.

Anyone have a tip on where I can get something like this on the periphery of Inverness? As we’ll be fresh into a car with manual transmission we’re not used to I’m not keen on going deep into Inverness, but happy to pop inside a bit to find a good place to shop.

Thanx in advance for your suggestions!! Oh, and any suggestions on where to leave those chairs at the end of our journey is welcome too.

There's no Costco in Inverness, only 3 in all of Scotland. Not even a Decathlon. Sorry I couldn't help.

There is however a Cotswold Outdoor which will be a bit more expensive (but excellent quality).

Hi -

Inverness has a branch of Tiso at 2 Henderson Road Inverness IV2 1SN. They are a large outdoor supplies store and may well have what you are after. I spotted fold up chairs for as little as £10 each on their website a minute or two ago. I also discovered they own George Fishers in Keswick, so I’ve learned something too!

The shops in motorway service areas often sell cheap camping chairs too.

I could have sworn that there was a discount store for outdoor gear right off the highway near Nairn. I can't find it now. I go rain pants for £5 a number of years back. Anybody know it? I couldn't spot it through a google search.

If you collect the car at the airport, the A96 back into Inverness passes a large retain park. There is a mahoosive Tesco there and a Mountain Warehouse. This is on StreetView if you want to get familiarised with it. The Mountain Warehouse is between Nando's and Costa.

As for where to leave it, check on line to see if this is the sort of things the various charities would accept. Shelter, BHF, and many others have locations in and around Inverness.

Perfect!! That gives me a few km of learning how to drive the manual on the right side of the car before I have to navigate a shopping mall! Then my wife can try her hand at driving the manual somewhere on the edge of the parking lot where she can't run over anyone. The last time we drove manuals was 1998 when we sold our first car.

But seriously, Tesco and Mountain Warehouse are perfect, plus there's lot of other places to pick up stuff there too. Thanx for the suggestion!

I just remembered that you are a "we". They said they were low on stock. Hope they don't run out before you get yours...

lol, I just checked the store's stock of a few camping chairs, it seemed good. Hoping for a sale on something super cheap when we arrive. If nothing we'll just get something in Edinburgh that night, but hoping to have them for day 1 drive down.
