Quick Train question

We're leaving for Scotland tomorrow and have most of our trip to the Highlands and Orkneys planned out. Thanks to people on this forum for the good advice! A final question, do we need to buy our train ticket from Edinburgh to Newcastle on May 20 in advance? It looks like there are a lot of trains scheduled and we have all day to get there. Thanks in advance for advice! We're looking forward to the pub in the Newcastle train station that we learned about on this Forum on a previous trip!

No you don't, the ticket will be cheaper bought in advance, but there are always last minute on the day cheaper Advance train specific tickets.
Currently some trains that day are as low as £8.40 each before any railcard discount (£18.60 1st class).
You won't get that low on the day!
