pubs in edinburgh/dinner spots

Hello:

We are in Edinburgh for 4 days from October 4 to October 8th. We are interested in eating some dinners at fun and cozy pubs that serve up good food. We are staying at the Intercontinental but we are good walkers. Any good recommendations?

Thanks.

Janet

Now the robots have been banished, just to give your thread a bump for others, I feel I should add something semi-useful.

Not a pub, but somewhere I've never seen mentioned on here is City Cafe. I used to be in there all the time when I was around Edinburgh regularly 100 years ago. I've Googled and it's very much still going and looks almost identical. Good diner food and drinks. Probably not what you're after coming from the US [edit: eek! Canada! My apologies.] :) It was always a very cool crowd back in my day, and I get the feeling it's still not really on the tourist trail even though it's in the Old Town.

Hopefully others can suggest somewhere a bit more "pubby". I've never really been a "pub for food" kinda guy.

I stayed in Leith, where the Royal Brittania is docked. I had good meals at The Ship on the Shore and the King’s Wark. Not a pub, but the Port of Leith Distillery has nice food and amazing views. I didn’t eat there, but I enjoyed a drink at Teuchter’s Landing (we sat outside, which may not be an option for you in October). The whole area was delightful. Accessible by tram.

We also enjoyed the King’s Wark. Typical pub food. When we were there there was live music. It made for a fun evening.

Thanks all. We are not really into pub food either but we do like to stop and have a drink before dinner. Also, looks like there are some good gastropubs in Edinburgh as well. We are not into fine dining at all .......not foodies!! Thanks for the suggestions.
