Private Driving Tour of Scotland

Hello! Can anyone recommend a private driving tour of Scotland? There will be 4 of us and we would like to see Northern Scotland/the Highlands. Is there a company that will arrange everything for us, including the driver, tours and accommodation?

Thank you!

One company that you might want to contact is Rabbies, which does a number of tours all over the UK. They're an excellent group and come very highly recommended on this forum. Generally, they offer day and multi-night tours for travelers but they also offer private tours that that are catered for your needs. You can find more information here: https://www.rabbies.com/en-us/private-tours

I did two group day tours with Rabbies and liked them just fine. But then I also wanted to book a day tour of my own design - sort of last minute.

A few places were already booked - but Rabbies came through and priced a day tour with driver and site entries.

But Rabbies actually farmed it out to Hopscotch Tours - and Rabbies took a cut. Had I found Hopscotch on my own, I could have saved some money.

So I would consider Hopscotch Tours. They were fabulous!!!!! Here's my review on the RS site: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/day-tours/report-day-tour-from-edinburgh-hopscotch-tours

Also - in terms of cost: I can give you a general idea that the day of driving/touring was 650 pounds. We had some expensive site entries - that was an additional 50 pounds per person for tickets. We did not need lodging.

We had a wonderful experience with Inverness Custom Tours. You can let them know what you'd like to see and do and they will fill in the itinerary for you. Amanda was our tour guide and she was awesome. Got ferry tickets, dropped us off at sights, picked us up, kept us on time for ferries and tours. And she was so knowledgeable and jolly. So nice not to have to drive, find parking, fill a car with gas. Highly recommend.

Hi Tina
We have traveled with Inverness Tours, parent company of Inverness Custom Tours. Our tours have been phenomenal!

Laura and Ian, company owners, are wonderful to work with. They will create an adventure specific to your interests. Their guides are genuinely kind knowledgeable people who love sharing their country with visitors. Their vans are very comfortable to ride in, important for longer days. We can not recommend them highly enough.

While they are based in Inverness they will collect you from most anywhere. I think they are not allowed to booking accommodation for you, something about business license type?, they will provide great references for places to stay as you travel along your adventure.

Thank you for all of your suggestions! I ended up booking a private tour through Hopscotch Travel. They were so easy to work with and actually pretty reasonable. The trip is this summer so I'll let you know how it went. We also booked a small group tour of Ireland with Overland Ireland tours. We have traveled with them before and it was lots of fun.

Now I need recommendations for hotels in Edinburgh and Dublin. Any suggestions?

Thanks! Tina
