Private driver (cab?) from Newhaven Cruise Port (Edinburgh)

I would appreciate feedback on getting a private driver or cab to take us from Newhaven Cruise Port to the Scottish National Gallery (on a Saturday in June) and back again, as we have to be back at the pier between 3:30 - 4:00 or so for a 5:00 departure. Anyone who has done this or has expertise please chime in. Are cabs even allowed on the Newhaven Cruise Port? I realize it may require two bookings as we don't need the driver while we are at the gallery. Thanks very much.

Have you seen this information on the "Cruise Forth" website? It suggests taxis are available at the port, but also that the tram service is within 500metres of the port. You could take the tram into the city and it stops very close to the National Gallery. You could alternatively take the number 11 bus into the city.

Does the cruise company not offer a van service? Probably expensive. Take the tram. It's fast and easy and takes you right to the heart of the city. There will be a ticket machine at the platform that is very straightforward to use. Tap to pay. The tram is clean and comfortable. Might be crowded with other cruise passengers. To get the jump on them, you could download the app ("bus & tram" from Lothian Buses), purchase tickets and activate them just before boarding. If you get back early and the weather is nice, think about getting off at The Shore or Port of Leith stop and strolling through that very pleasant area, maybe a mile from the dock. Enjoy your time in Edinburgh!
