We are going to Scotland in last August. It's our third trip, returning to Edinburgh for four nights, St. Andrews for five, then on
to the Borders for three nights before heading to York and then flying out of Manchester.
We are contemplating staying in Peebles, or perhaps Melrose. Open to suggestions. Thanks, all.
I am maybe not your ideal source. Scotland has a lot of handsome, good looking towns and villages, but compared with our Auld Alliance (France) or Auld Enemy (England) we do not have a lot of pretty ones. Then again pretty is subjective!
Of your suggestions I would say Melrose, especially if the rugby is on.
I stayed in Melrose a number of years ago. It had a nice B&B--can't recall the name--right in town, and I could walk to a posher hotel that had a wonderful dinner.
You might look at Selkirk. Also, I noticed that Interleithan has a musical weekend in late August. That would be fun! Book ahead though as these festivals tend to sell out the village.
I also liked Kelso. I enjoyed visiting Floors Castle. There is an Abbey ruin in town as well.

HI Pam,
Many thanks for the info--especially the link to the music festival. I'll check all the towns out.
