Positano In Edinburgh Now Ristotante Isola

Using Rick's 2014 Britain Book, we called Positano in Edinburgh for reservations. TripAdvisor said they were closed but Yelp had them listed. When we got there we learned it changed it's name to Ristorante Isola. Same chef, who bought it. Very good food. The only thing is we ordered a Cesar salad which clearly wasn't one at all and the waiter didn't know the difference. However, it had classic Italian cocktails (e.g. Campari) and great pasta dishes. Time to update the book, Rick.

I think it changed names pretty recently, i actually walked by there last weekend and didn't notice the name.I do remember it being Bratisani's fish and chip shop many years ago.

I'm not surprised that they didn't know what a Caesar Salad was... It's a uniquely American invention. I've never seen Caesar Salad on a menu anywhere in Europe...

Actually, you'd assume any good chef would know how to look up any classic recipe, which again you'd assume he'd had if he's worth his salt, and create it or his version of it. I mean, no dressing at all on what looked like chopped iceberg lettuce and goat cheese instead of Parmesan? I still liked the place, but a complete whiff in trying to hit this ball. If he'd called it something else, like maybe the ingredients he made the salad with, my expectations would not have been raised to what he had named it.

Are you still in Edinburgh, some not bad new places in the area near Isola ,Clarkes Bar does some pretty good American barbeque stuff as well as a great selection of beers and there is a new place just opened on the corner of East Preston street (Can't remember the name ) but looks like decent food and has a nice interior.

Actually it may have been invented in Tijuana by an Italian immigrant named Caesar Cardini, who lived in San Diego but had a restaurant in Mexico.
