Portree to Glasgow -

Which is the place to stay half way between Portree and Glasgow?

We are travelling in early June and we will have a car.

Are you traveling by car? I suppose the time of year might also matter.

Fort William is half way. Stay around there or just south in the Glencoe area.

Is there anything you specifically wish to do? That area is good for hiking.

Anywhere between Glencoe and Oban would work well. Fort William has lots of accommodation but is rather 'boring' compared with elsewhere.

We regularly use the Premier Inn in Fort William if we need to stay over in that area. They have a pub next door which does breakfast as well as evening meals. Good rates if booked well in advance.

We stayed at Myrtlebank B&B in Fort William, and the accommodations and breakfast were the best we've ever had, and the price was in line with the area. They don't use booking.com - just email/phone. We had an excellent meal at the Geographer (owner is psiliac, so the menu has lots of variety). There was music at the Volunteer Arms. Checked all the boxes.

Better hustle on reservations!

If you have the time, our BnB host in Oban recommend a scenic route. We went north out of Oban and took the A82 - stopped in Glencoe and continued, then turned on the A85 at Crianlarich and then turned off the A85 and went to Killen to spend the night. A delightful wee town in a beautiful setting, roaring river with the Falls of Dochart.
Then we drove back to the A85 and drove to near Lochearhead and took the A 84 to around Callendar where we turned toward Brig o Turk and on to Aberfoyle. It’s a lovely drive through the Trossachs, albeit on smaller roads.
Turned onto the A811 toward Dryman and down to Balloch on the south end of Loch Lomand . Then on to Glasgow. It sounds complicated, but we had no issues and it is a drop-dead-gorgeous drive. Took us about 2 to 2.5 hours driving from Killen but we stopped a lot to hike a bit and spent time in Aberfoyle wandering around and having lunch- so took us about 6 to 7 hours.

Alternately another beautiful and more traditional drive is to take the A82 through Crianlarich and drive along the west side of Loch Lomand, which is what most have recommended.
Another charming village - in our opinion - is Luss, on the banks of Loch Lomand. Delightful to walk around and walk on the banks of Loch Lomand. Good places for lunch and/or tea. Also found the cemetery most interesting.

Then back to the A82 to Glasgow. There is Dumbarton Castle along the way. An interesting older fortress. Www.historic environment.scot/visit-a-place/places/dumbarton-castle.
Whew- hope I got the website correctly posted (and there is always google)
