Portavedie to Tarbert Ferry

We'll be leaving Colintraive and heading for Kennecraig ferry terminal. We must arrive there by 9:30 am. Taking the Portavedie to Tarbert ferry saves us a lot of driving time but we must make the 8:30 ferry to make it work. That's the first ferry of the day, it's a turn up and go ferry. Anyone have experience with this ferry? How busy is it likely to be?
We are traveling on a Wednesday in August.

If you are on the 0945 to Islay vehicles need to be at Kennacraig by 0915, which gives you almost no leeway.
This vessel is the first to be sent elsewhere if there is a breakdown on the network, or is not replaced if it breaks down- due to there being an alternative road route. When it is replaced it is with a passenger only charter.
If this is before the schools go back then there really shouldn't be a problem.
But the timing is just too tight for my liking, irrespective of capacity.
My advice would be to have booked the 1300 sailing to Islay, it would have given you more ability to cope with the unforeseen, including weather issues.
But where you are now I think driving round is the prudent- a 2 hour trip so leave soon after 0630 to be on the safe side.
