We will be traveling by bus from Fort William to Inverness, and then on to Nairn via train. It seems like an opportune time to tour Urquhart Castle.
Looking at the City Link bus time table, there is an opportunity to stop near Urquhart Castle. I did contact Urquhart Castle and they do not have a place to store luggage.
There was a suggestion on another web site to stop in Drumnadrochit and store luggage at the Visitor Center, then take a shuttle bus to the castle.
Does any one know if this is a real thing?
Thanks!
That's the first time I have ever heard of a shuttle bus from Drumnadrochit. And have you checked that the Visitor Centre offer that facility. In the current security climate it would be very surprising if they did, as it is a big security risk to them.
There is no such registered bus service. Any one wanting to do that would probably take the 2 mile walk.
Do you know that Citylink run a bus every 2 hours from Inverness to Aberdeen which stops in Nairn (it is named The Gordon Highlander, and only started in June) so you can book a through Citylink ticket.
Generally the local bus service (#10/10B) from Inverness to Nairn is far more frequent than the train at half hourly and the Bus Station is closer to the Sunny Brae. The Gordon Highlander also doubles as a local buy on board local bus service.
I suggest you contact Visit Inverness Loch Ness and ask them

I did not know about the bus option from Inverness to Aberdeen that has a stop in Nairn. Thank you!
I contacted Visit Inverness Loch Ness. They suggested I contact Loch Ness Travel. When I went to the link, Loch Ness Travel is a business that transports luggage for walkers. One of their main routes is transferring to and from Fort William and Inverness. I sent them an email inquiry about holding luggage and transportation locally from the Inverness area to Urquhart Castle.
I'll share any information that they provide.
Here is the reply to my email...
Thank you for your email and enquiry.
We offer luggage storage at Loch Ness Hub on a first come first served basis. Options for transport to the castle are via 2 mile walk, Citylink bus or Taxi. We would be delighted to help you with all three options on your arrival.
Bags are stored at £5 per day.
This sound like a good option for me. I believe we can off the the Citylink bus at the Drumnadrochit post office and walk 2 minutes to the Loch Ness Hub and Travel building.
Glad it has worked out for you.
