Parliament House Edinburgh

I will be staying for 3 nights in October. Any thoughts on this place or any other suggestions would be great. Looking for 3-4 star, walkable, near restaurants and bars.
Thanks

I stayed there last September for 4 nights and really liked it--lovely old building, actually 2 joined together, on Calton Hill so you want to approach on foot from Waterloo Place otherwise it's pretty steep--I tried that just once! It's close to Waverley Station, Princes St and St Andrews Square, so it was an easy walk from the airport bus that stops there. Edinburgh is wonderfully walkable and I felt well-situated for exploring old town and plenty of restaurants and shopping. There is a fabulous restaurant, Howies, on Waterloo Place so just around the corner--reservations are necessary and I had a lunch & dinner there--if you are curious about haggis, I highly recommend theirs as an appetizer.

I had a deluxe room with a view towards the row of 1700s houses and a tree-shrouded path that leads up to Calton Hill, along the other side is a very old cemetery. The public areas and my room were very nicely decorated, clean, comfy and quiet. There is a radiator for heat plus all the other usual amenities. I didn't have breakfast there but they do offer it and there's a cozy lobby area with seating and a small bar and I expect they'd have a fire going in the cool months. The front desk staff were always quite kind & helpful.

I have stayed at the Parliment House hotel twice and I would heartily recommend it. The hotel is tucked away on a side street, close, but away from the hustle of the city. I found it easy to get to the buses, light rail, and trains. My room had everything I needed.

I stayed around the corner at the Apex Waterloo Place last June. I heartily second Christa’s recommendation of Howies! Reliably good food and professional service.

I also had a wonderful dinner at Educated Flea, a few blocks up Broughton Street. They are open only Thursday through Sunday, for lunch or dinner, and reservations are a must.

Looking forward to more meals at both of these places when I return to Edinburgh this May.
