options for car return after Inverness. HELP!

We are 2 couples visiting Scotland in May 2024. Arriving Glasgow, renting a car and visiting Oban, Skye, Culloden area. Our friends will be flying to Orkney for a couple of days meeting up in Edinburgh again. We are staying at Smithton Hotel near Inverness. We will need to make our way to Edinburgh and thought we would drive to Pitlochry for one night and train to Edinburgh. There seems to be few car returns there. So where in Inverness should we return the car? How do we get to the train station afterwards to continue to Pitlochry?
I hate this part of trip planning. lol.

There are a couple of car rental companies in Inverness, returning a car at one of their locations seems like a good idea. Inverness is small enough that you can most likely walk to the station after returning the car.

Drop the car off in Inverness and then catch a train to Pilochry. It takes about 90 minutes and you don't need to change. Then continue by train to Edinburgh.

Who are you using to hire your car from? Arnold Clarke (Celtic Legend in the US) have a depot on Harbour Road which is less than a mile tfrom the railway station.

Collect in Glasgow and return to Edinburgh airport would be the best. Is there an overwhelming need to return it to Inverness?

To some degree it depends on which agency from who you rented the car . For example I rented from Celtic Legend ( Arnold Clark ) and will drop on the western edge of Edinburgh right near the airport in October . The drive from Pitlochry south is easy .
